This was the 3rd time in 6 weeks my mom had been admitted to the hospital. While nice, the other nurses were just treating a patient. Then we got Nurse Mercedes and instantly she understood my mom was in trouble. She treated my momma as if she was one of her loved ones in the hospital. I live 4 hours away and was so relieved to have Nurse Mercedes taking care of her. While I was at the hospital I got to see how much care, thought, and protections she gave my mom. When she had to put an ng tube in my mom, she brought my mom a bouquet of flowers to try to help her feel better. Then after coming back to work after 1 day off she requested to have my mom as her patient. Again, I was so relieved I knew my mom had a person like a family member there to care for her when I could not be at the hospital to advocate for her. I knew I could talk to Nurse Mercedes about my mom's progress and she helped me understand everything. Nurse Mercedes was always upbeat with us and made us feel at home. I don't need to tell you that hospitals are not anyone's idea of a good time. I always felt that Nurse Mercedes went out of her way to make sure my mom was being attended to even making sure the doctors and other staff were doing what they could for her. She put her many years of knowledge and skills as a nurse to work while caring for my mom and everyone else too. I've personally had a number of surgeries and hospital visits and I've never seen such a level of dedication and kindness that Nurse Mercedes exhibited.
