"What would Ruth do?" is a question I use to guide my nursing practice. Since the day I met her, Ruth has consistently led by example. Ruth never cuts corners when it comes to patient care. She is kind, caring, and does anything in her power to help her team. There is no job that is too small or too big for her. Ruth inspires me to be a better nurse.

Ruth is one of the most amazing friends, coworkers, and nurses anyone could know. Ruth exemplifies Adventist Health's mission statement and values on a daily basis. There are too many examples to write about. A few values that stand out are:
1. Be a force for good- Ruth is above and beyond patient advocate many times I have witnessed Ruth going above and beyond to research and provide information that will benefit a patient after discharge. Ruth is excellent at communicating with physicians and explaining how a patient would benefit from additional resources or a different approach.
2. Be welcoming- Ruth not only cares for her patients, she genuinely serves anyone who approaches her. You are guaranteed a very welcoming "hello" or "I am happy to do that", Ruth is a role model for all of us. I am a better person and nurse because I have had the honor of working with Ruth.
3. Be curious- Ruth consistently asks questions about anything she does not understand or feels important is needed. Not only is Ruth open to new ideas she introduces them to all of her coworkers. Ruth is so gentle with her request for her coworkers to try new approaches to patient care improvement. We as a department have seen a marked improvement in documentation, especially on skin impairment risk.

Ruth impresses me every time I have the opportunity to work with her. She is diligent in assuring cleanliness, safe practices, and collaboration. Ruth functions many times as our RPM 1 or window nurse which puts her responsible for many things from identifying big sick and little sick to navigating visitors and also updating patients and associates regarding the care of patients. She is patient and compassionate when trying to help patients and compassionate when trying to help patients understand wait times and/or care options.
Ruth is a wonderful resource for everyone in our department. she was so patient in training me in my new role as a Ruth and took the time to really tell me the positives and negatives of my new role. She exemplifies what a nurse really should be: someone deliberately choosing to be kind, helpful, compassionate, smart, proactive, and an advocate. She is deserving of recognition.
