Barb helped to develop the first nursing informatics department for Seton Family of Hospitals nursing practice and was also its first director.
Barb has a long history with Seton and nursing. She worked for many years at the bedside in women's health and NICU. She was the educator for perinatal outreach. She was the women's health subject matter expert for the national design of the electronic health record. For many years she functioned as a liaison between nursing leadership and IT. Barb helped to develop the first nursing informatics department for Seton Family of Hospitals nursing practice and was also its first director. She helped to define and develop roles and responsibilities for many of the nursing informatics positions that we have today. Barb is a well-liked preceptor for graduate students as well as a mentor for new employees to the specialty. She finds informatics fascinating and is able to pass on her own excitement for the specialty with others. Barb has been a key team member as we have been on our Magnet journey, recently for DSMC-UT. She made sure that clinical nurses participated in the development of new tools in the EHR, which is essential for Magnet designation. Barb has been recognized in the past during her 35 years here and has been the clinical informatics nurse of the year.
