Sheila is often found having conversations with her patients and making those real connections but also giving her usual honest and direct advice on how the patient can take the best care of themselves within the hospital and when out of the hospital.
Sheila demonstrates steadfast dedication not only to her patients but also to her teammates within the Dialysis unit. She has by far responded to calls for help on her days off more than any other nurse in the unit. Especially over the last 2 years of the pandemic, Ms. Wood has come to the rescue of the team through her willingness to come in and provide treatments to renal patients. It does not matter if she has worked late into the night before, she will say, "Let me get some sleep and I will be there this afternoon," and she doesn't fail to come in and do sometimes more than one set of patients.

She is a mentor, preceptor, and coach within the unit for the other nurses. She has supported new graduate RNs and newly hired experienced RNs to be the best Dialysis nurses they can be. She is very honest and direct with her advisement but pairs it with support and encouragement. She has her certification and is a member of her professional organization.

She is always looking out for her patients. The dialysis patients at Emory are higher acuity than the average major hospitals and Ms. Wood is consistent in assessing her patients and guarding against any negative events. She is an excellent dialysis nurse who cares for her whole patient. She is often found having conversations with her patients and making those real connections but also giving her usual honest and direct advice on how the patient can take the best care of themselves within the hospital and when out of the hospital. We have never had a patient complain about Ms. Wood's care or professionalism. I believe she is a great asset to our Dialysis team and our patients' care.
