I would not be here today if it wasn’t for Mary’s keen eye and knowledge of the profession.
Recently, I was hospitalized with COVID-19. During my 16 days on the COVID floor, the nursing staff all tended to my care. But one nurse (Mary H) went above and beyond. Mary took the time to speak with me, work with me, and was truly compassionate. After spending 5 days on the floor, Mary was the first nurse to help give me a sponge bath. She took the time to explain my care and current health. Realizing I was on the edge of taking a turn for the worse on my oxygen needs, Mary recommended trying Mucinex as part of my medication plan. This was truly the turning point for my road to recovery. I would not be here today if it wasn’t for Mary’s keen eye and knowledge of the profession. Mary (Day 5) was the nurse to call my wife to give her an update on my progress. She spent the time talking to her about my health and medical plan while making sure my wife was okay. The next day Mary worked she wasn’t assigned to me, but took the time to visit and check on me. Again, she updated my wife as the week continued. Mary took the time to help me get up and walk into the room, as well as tend to my mental health by just talking to me. Mary protected herself but did not let my COVID diagnosis deter her from tending to my physical and mental health. I owe my life to Mary. Because of her, I am here today.
