She knew that the heparin drip was instrumental in the veteran's treatment and safety, she called the provider immediately and informed them of this fallout in the treatment plan.
Ms. MaryJane has a strong commitment to providing quality care to our patients and takes pride in her ability to go above and beyond to meet their needs. She is also a strong advocate for patient safety and has been recognized for her efforts in this area. She is passionate about nursing and uses her skills and experience to make a positive impact on the patients at VA Hospital. An example of this is when she found out that a veteran's heparin drip was discontinued for a procedure but was never renewed after it. As she knew that the heparin drip was instrumental in the veteran's treatment and safety, she called the provider immediately and informed them of this fallout in the treatment plan. The provider recognized it immediately and wanted to start the drip as soon as possible and gave the order to start from the last running dose. Ms. MaryJane is aware that this is not the safe way of restarting a heparin drip after 2 days of disconnection. She did not agree with the provider's order and explained her concerns to him. The provider recognized his mistake and ordered a heparin drip as per the policy and procedure of the VA to keep our veteran safe. She continuously and very frequently observed the patient for any side effects from discontinuing the heparin drip and kept the medical team informed. Due to her dedication to safe medication administration, our veteran did not suffer any side effects and was safely discharged home.
