Janet is an incredible asset to our unit and the nursing profession as a whole. Recently, the medical floor upstairs was struggling with staffing shortages, unanswered call lights, and a patient that was on a 15L non-rebreather that needed to be transferred to the ICU at another facility and possible intubation. When I got off the phone with the nurse on the medical floor, Janet asked what was going on and right away offered to go up there and help them. With her previous ICU skills, she took over care of the patient needing to transfer to the ICU and also helped with getting him packed up and safely sent over to a facility with an ICU. While she was up helping on the medical floor, she also answered call lights, passed medications, and distributed food trays. I work alongside Janet in the pre/post as her charge nurse and she is constantly offering to stay late, come in early, pick up extra shifts, and pick up an extra call. She is an extremely talented nurse. She has an incredible bedside manner and is a wealth of knowledge in the profession. She stays busy and productive at work. She is often times the first to offer to take the next pre-op patient that checks in, recover the next patient coming to the recovery area, or start post-operative phone calls.

When pre/post was closed due to covid rates and staffing issues, Janet went to work in the COVID ICU. Putting her own health on the line to help in the midst of a healthcare crisis when ICU skilled nurses were so desperately needed. She is an incredible nurse and embodies everything that a person of a DAISY Award or a Nightingale Award entails. Janet will be ending her nursing career here in the near future and I am very hopeful that she will complete her career with an award to highlight what a blessing she has been to the profession, her community, her co-workers, and the art of the nursing profession.
