He was a great sense of comfort to me and made me laugh.
I was admitted, and I was terrified. Not only could I not move, but my mental health was very fragile as well. I was crying a lot and felt hopeless, and the uncertainty of what was going to happen to me was completely unclear. Pete was my overnight nurse those first few nights, and he opened up to me. Without realizing it, I was having multiple panic attacks, which would make my pain even worse. I had trouble sleeping, and he would come talk to me, and I would feel so much better. It was the first time since my pain began that I realized how my own anxiety was making it worse. He reached out to my doctor, and I was treated for anxiety the next day. This made a huge difference in my ability to cope with my surgery and recovery process. I told him about my struggle with addiction, and not once did I feel judged or looked at differently from him. He was a great sense of comfort to me and made me laugh, sometimes, which is hard to do in that situation. I think the first night I met him was even his day off. I feel like he went above and beyond, and it made me feel so much comfort. Thank you Pete- You’re Awesome!
