Katie makes us feel valued and focuses on our professional development. She is a wealth of knowledge, and she always knows the why.
Katie Witherspoon has many stories because she collaborates with so many people and departments. She helps improve patient safety and improves patient care throughout the entire hospital. She is truly enthusiastic for the safety of patients and also the elderly. She does not just delegate but is by your side helping you develop and grow. I have seen Katie put on a pair of scrubs to help, drop everything to walk a patient to the bathroom, and grab a fall mat for a patient who presented with syncope.
Katie makes us feel valued and focuses on our professional development. She is a wealth of knowledge, and she always knows the why. She is supportive, has emotional intelligence, and motivates me to do my best work. I am blessed to have Katie as my Leader and also know she will be at my side when I need her guidance. We all have Katie to thank for making HF WY a better and safer place.

Katie Witherspoon is always calm, thoughtful, uplifting, and caring in all encounters. She is always able to maintain this persona even under pressure, her spirit supports the room and sets the tone. She displays compassion and understanding in positive times as well as challenging endeavors. When leading projects or supporting projects, she does not make others feel uncomfortable or bad about themselves. She encourages team members to feel empowered and engaged with a subtle, yet strong leadership style. Her objectives for projects or opportunities are always in the view of what is best for the patient and staff.
During the staffing crisis this past December, Katie encouraged their staff to come in and assist, but not without doing the work themself. She worked hours on the floor assisting staff with patient care, on their unscheduled time. She devotes a significant amount of time and energy to building up her direct reports and encouraging them to do better.
She values confidentiality, quality improvement, and doing the right thing, even when no one else is looking. These characteristics provide a feeling of safety and confidence for the staff that she leads and mentors. She has a critical eye for things that matter while understanding realism in the perspective. Her bottom line for motivation is always what is best for the patient and their well-being. She is approachable to others to bring concerns and opportunities for growth. She does this by striving for an environment that embodies trust, mutual respect, compassion, and ethical behavior. She goes above and beyond when it comes to being adaptable to serve the needs of others and encouraging the team to make improvements, while providing the why behind the work. Her transparency and responsiveness are remarkable.
Henry Ford Wyandotte is lucky to have her work ethic, integrity, creative mind, and global awareness for what is right. Her unteachable characteristics and qualities embody what a transformational leader should be. Thank you, Katie, for all you do for all of us!
