I underwent thoracic spine fusion 3 weeks ago, and Mary was my overnight nurse for the first 2 nights in the hospital. I had some trouble getting my pain under control and was a little afraid of my parents leaving me alone in the hospital under those circumstances as well. Mary calmed all my fears, helped control my pain, and used all kinds of adjuncts to do so - for example, we did a kind of Reiki/breathing meditation exercise at one point. She was so gentle and kind, very thoughtful and attentive. I am a surgeon myself and this was my first experience being an inpatient, and Mary really did an amazing job. My family and I were all very appreciative that she was my nurse.
