In 2018 and then again in May 2019, I was a patient in the Duke Raleigh Hospital. Each time, I was fortunate to be given compassionate care by an amazing nurse named Fifi who possesses exceptional nursing qualities. Her approach was always professional focusing on the illness and treating me with respect and dignity- never a burden. She has outstanding listening and guidance skills not only with me but also with my family. When my family was hesitant about my having a cardioversion, Fifi explained the procedure and assured all of us that I was making the right decision to have it done. She is an unusual nurse who has great problem-solving abilities and knows how to anticipate and address problems with her calm, kind-hearted attitude and composed mind. After long working hours, Fifi would come back to work the next day vibrant and enthused as the day before and always remembering to bring with her a sense of humor. Even at discharge, Fifi gave much attention to detail when explaining my medications and my needs at home to me and my family.
