“A leader is an action, not a position” when I found out about the DAISY Nurse Leader Award, I immediately thought of Sharon Mitchell. I’ve worked at HPMC for 20 years and I can honestly say Sharon truly exemplifies the DAISY Nurse Leader Award, she is kind, considerate, fair, and honest. She has a work ethic, unlike anyone I have ever known. Sharon is the epitome of the word ‘extraordinary’. I’ve reached out for clarification, explanation, general knowledge and Sharon is always ready and willing to help. Sharon participates in everything, for ‘fun stuff’, rounding, snack carts, no matter who is being recognized, she is there to help celebrate. I remember the comfort and encouragement she brought to my interview process, it was unnerving, but Sharon was encouraging, she never gave me anything less than her full support, offering to help every step of the way. I have often told Sharon that I want to be her when I grow up. Sharon’s known for demonstrating “fairness, consistency, and respect.”
