My mother was a patient on 3N with a diagnosis of COVID. She also has physical limits due to a previous stroke. From the moment Debbie walked into my mom’s room until she left her shift that night, I was called 3 times with updates on how mom was doing and test results. My mom was very sick and it was also my father’s birthday (he passed away 4 years ago). Debbie made a point of singing happy birthday to dad along with my mom, this brought tears of happiness to mom. She explained test results in detail along with the possibility of other tests, this is something my mom couldn’t understand. She explained how additional tests could make a positive outcome for mom if needed. I trusted her because I could feel her knowledge of her patients on 3N. Debbie has also cared for my husband in prior years when he was on 3N and was always very professional. She is a friend of the family but has always been very professional in her job. One of the reasons I so appreciated knowing she was taking care of mom is because my husband is on the Heart Transplant list at U.W. Madison and being that my mom had COVID I wasn’t able to be with her. Debbie knew this so she made sure I was informed of every aspect of mom’s care. I’ve worked in Medical Records for 45 years and when I see caring nurses like Debbie, it makes me proud of being a part of this team that cares so graciously for our patients every day. They are very busy all day not to mention working through the pandemic. I can only hope they continue their career here in Marshfield. She is truly an asset to our facility.
