A patient was admitted to the Critical Care Unit a few months ago and was turning for the worse and went “bad” overnight. Gretchen went above and beyond for this patient who not only needed to be intubated but needed to be transferred to another facility. There is not an in-house hospitalist in the CCU at nighttime, so she had to collaborate with the virtual doctors, ED, and the admitting MD to get the patient intubated and transferred to another facility. She worked for hours to get this patient where they really needed to be.

A few weeks later we found out the patient had a trach and peg placed and was sent to rehab. While she was still in rehab and on trach/vent she wrote a note to thank Gretchen Martin for saving her life and listening to her wishes. She was finally weaned off the vent and the trach was removed and talked about her experiences at Lincoln and how great Gretchen was. Gretchen made this patient and family comfortable, was a patient advocate, demonstrated compassion and excellence in customer service, and was able to show her clinical skills.
