This nurse made a difference in my stay in literally 20 minutes. I have been on the unit for 48 hours after two failed inductions. I need a c-section but the OR is on divert due to a lack of staff. I had been bed bound on Pitocin and my room, personal affect, and attitude all had taken its toll. I felt flat and like I was on another planet. Dilan came in at shift change for my Day nurse. Sat down and said, "this is insanity" and we laid out a plan. She let me get up, shower, got my room cleaned, and let me go walk around. She let me feel like a person again. I was able to go outside for the first time in 48+ hours and walk the Healing Gardens. As a nurse myself, I know how hard it is to make every patient feel like their care is centered and our main priorities for the whole 12 hours. But for her to come onto my care team and change my attitude about my situation in less than 30 minutes…. That is a talent I aspire to.
