Heather is absolutely phenomenal, from her bedside manner, clinical expertise, and empathy.
I was seen in the ED for abdominal pain. My care was professional and both of these outstanding women are the reason for my good outcome. I had a CT w IV contrast ordered, to r/o appendicitis. It was read off-site, and the report made no mention of my appendix having acute findings. It mentioned only a kidney stone, which did not fit with my symptoms. I had already been in the ED for a few hours. I am also an RN and have young kids at home that I was focused on getting home to. We live nearby so it would have been easy to return. We just moved to LA a month ago, so we don't have childcare help/family nearby and I was very worried about juggling my issues with them and my husband's schedule. They all effectively communicated to one another as well as to me that my presentation although subtle/minimized by myself, was cause for concern and in light of a vague report, that I should stick it out and get a CT with oral contrast out of the way, to be certain it was not appendicitis. The CT with oral contrast came back blatantly positive for appendicitis, and I was in surgery 2 hours later. It had not ruptured. Had I gone home based on the original CT, the radiologists' unconcerned attitude, and my symptoms improving...I could have ended up with a complex abdominal infection that could have had a serious impact on my quality of life, not to nevertheless a far longer hospital stay during bed shortages. Heather is absolutely phenomenal, from her bedside manner, clinical expertise, and empathy... she's overall the kind of nurse I'd want to take care of a loved one, as well as to have as a colleague. Treat her well. She is one of the good ones for sure.
