Hazel took the time to look up resources and arrange a ride home for us in a special wheelchair van.
Hazel was the charge nurse at the day my husband and I got our COVID vaccines. I am wheelchair-bound due to a stroke I had a few years ago. I set up my wheelchair pick up and drop off at the COVID vaccine clinic weeks ago, but somehow the transportation service never picked us up after we got our COVID vaccines. We stayed in the observation area after our COVID shots for quite some time, and Hazel noticed and kept checking in on us. My husband kept trying to call the transportation company to get everything sorted, but it was late in the evening, and no one was picking up. We waited for 3 hours. Our appointment was at 4 pm, and by 7 pm we were still trying to figure out how we were going to get home.
Hazel helped us call different transportation companies. Our case was difficult since we had to find a specific company that had a wheelchair ramp to accommodate my wheelchair, and my husband is too weak to help carry me himself. We could not get a taxi and needed special services. Hazel took the time to look up resources and arrange a ride home for us in a special wheelchair van. She spent so much time calling different companies to make sure we could get home safely, all while multi-tasking and helping others run the vaccine clinic smoothly. She also recognized that we had been in the clinic from 4-7 pm. She asked me if I was diabetic because she knew we had not eaten anything. Hazel gave us water, and then even gave us her dinner because she knew we were hungry since we had been waiting all evening.
We did not ask her for any of it. She just knew from the kindness of her heart. It was a healthy salad, and she made sure we were not allergic to anything she gave us. She is so caring, and compassionate, and truly advocates for her patients. We were so impressed by how professional and resourceful Hazel was. We could not believe she was able to find a wheelchair van that could accommodate our special needs at the last minute at 8 pm on a Wednesday night. She is truly a saint, and she saved our lives that evening. Hazel is the most caring nurse we have met and cannot thank her enough. Thank you, Stanford, for hiring amazing employees like Hazel.
