During a medical response team call, blood gases were obtained for a patient with a mental status change. It was determined that the patient needed to blow off CO2 with the use of a BiPaP. The patient was not cooperative in wearing the BiPap mask. Dawn Woody, PCC was not the patient's nurse on this shift, but had formed a connection with this patient, so the patient would only agree to wear the mask if Dawn was with her. Dawn knew the importance of this and stayed with this patient and held her hand for the full hour that the patient needed to wear the BiPap mask. Just by taking the time to be with her Dawn helped this patient through a much needed treatment.
