She continues to sit with patients and hold their hands and talk to them so they never transition alone.  She continually fights for our patients to make sure they have not only the best care, but the resources available to help them heal.
My post-op (neuro-spinal surgery) experience was very, very difficult.  I was so scared, in horrible pain, and couldn’t move at all, and my night nurse was not a good match for me.  I was crying continuously - this is my 9th or 10th surgery, so I know the drill…I was afraid to complain but afraid not to.  Sara came in the next morning, listened with total compassion and understanding, and switched my care team immediately to ensure my needs were met - and exceeded.  She checked on me every single day to see if I was OK (been here 5 days)!  I was so scared that my first night was an omen of what was to come, but Sara made sure I received the best care possible.  I can’t thank her enough for her support and concern.  She is an asset to this organization.  Can’t imagine dealing with tough patients all day and she does it with total grace and professionalism.  ROCK STAR!!!  Sara - thank you for the bottom of my heart, you changed everything.

Sara has been there through some of the toughest and most challenging times, not only for our patients but for our staff.  She is the glue of our team as she is a listening ear, a shoulder to cry on and rely on, and a trusted and competent resource.  Although she is a Care Coach, Sara daily goes above and beyond in helping the charge nurse, the nurses, and the PCTs to help deliver exceptional care.  She is someone that the staff feel comfortable and safe with and they know they can go to her for answers or help if needed.

During days when we are understaffed, on weekdays when she has already worked her shifts, and on weekends, Sara has come in to help prepare for double bunking, for COVID patients, or anything else that is needed to get the job done.  She is reliable, dependable, and there for the nitty gritty.  She doesn’t sit back and watch but gets in to do the dirty work alongside the team.

At the beginning of the pandemic, when visitors were not allowed, Sara sat with patients passing away from COVID so they would not be alone.  She continues to sit with patients and hold their hands and talk to them so they never transition alone.  She continually fights for our patients to make sure they have not only the best care, but the resources available to help them heal.

Day in and day out, Sara listens to patients and their family members and helps resolve concerns as they arise.  Many times, I have heard patients say that they felt like they could trust her, and she made them feel comfortable and listened to.  I have heard patients say that they wish she was their daughter or granddaughter. I have seen patients bring in books for her to read and bond with her through extremely difficult situations in their lives.  I have seen patients’ family members call her to tell them that their loved one died and how much she meant to them.  I have seen Sara fight for patients dying of cancer so they can get the tools and resources they need at home.  I have seen Sara go above and beyond day in and day out to make sure her team and her patients have what they need.

Sara’s presence is such a gift to our team.  She is valuable to our patients and our staff alike.  She is that person that when you know she is there, it’s going to be a good day.  I don’t think she realizes how much she truly does for this hospital and our team.  Words can’t express the appreciation we feel.
