Great leaders are manifested by their example to others. Lisa sets the bar for all of us to follow, and we are able to shine because of her leadership.
Lisa is a role model to follow in exhibiting compassionate care for all our patients. Very often she can be found at the bedside of either department starting an IV because it was a hard stick for the patient, and she is showing her compassion to give them the best care we can in limiting the IV stick attempts. She never wavers to come to the bedside, despite her unending assignments from her supervisory role and in attending meetings at the main hospital. By her actions, in always researching and being willing to document data for the needs of our departments, whether it is for bedside use of colo-wraps, scopes, beds, or a much-needed Stryker tower for ASC, Lisa has created an environment where trust and mutual respect are felt by all staff. Lisa has set the example of being one of the first to go back and attend school to further her degree and become a certified Ambulatory Care nurse. This has shown the staff that it is possible and attainable for us to achieve as well. Great leaders are manifested by their example to others. Lisa sets the bar for all of us to follow, and we are able to shine because of her leadership.
I have seen Lisa as a mentor in helping new charge staff grow to their potential by meeting with them regularly and setting the example for how to interact with staff in meetings and behind the seen teaching communication skills to fellow nurses needing to implement change for the patient care. She is always willing to include any nurse who walks up to a conversation, never excluding them as if they were not good enough or high enough. Her attitude is that she wants everyone on her team to excel, thus she gives them commendations where applicable and a gentle nudge of correction when needed. She definitely holds us all accountable for our nursing actions as well as our communication skills. There is no tolerance for bullies in our department, and she makes sure to protect any who feel like there is a need for action.
Lisa has always promoted and enhanced the image of nursing within BSW organization. She has been a top 25 nurse and remains that way. Lisa promotes, supports, and encourages ministry to people whose lives have been disrupted by illnesses, injuries, and the stresses of life. She encourages me to continue sharing bible verses with our patients, thereby taking care of their spiritual needs with the end result of our patients being cared for holistically. All our thank you cards also have a Bible verse "Isaiah 41:10,13" written on them, for patients to access later at home. Through this, we help support our Christian ministry of healing here in Endoscopy.
Lisa empowers our team members to use their talents to deliver exceptional experiences. Our patients report time and again that it meant the world to them to have the scriptures read at the bedside, or to have the team listen and take action in getting a US guided IV for them.
Lisa is a prime advocate for the patient's needs Including their safety. That begins with her team feeling "safe" and encouraged, to speak up, raise concerns, express ideas and ask questions for the safety of our patients. At one point, It was found that a certain procedure was not being conducted according to the gold standard of care and so Lisa encouraged research and data collection so that it could be changed to better serve our patients safely. Lisa comes to work on time every day and we the staff know it's going to be a good day when we see her walk through our hallways checking to make sure all in the departments are up and running well. She has an open-door policy that allows us to come and seek her nursing input and unload any weight of the nursing day at any time. She will stop what she is doing and try to help find a solution or at least lend a listening ear until we have vented to our satisfaction. She leaves asking for any needs before she ends her nursing day only to start her coaching role in her daughter’s athletics and serves her church community.
