I have worked with Amber on the Men's Residential Unit at Fountain Centers for several years. I noticed right away that she is an amazing example of "Patient Needs Come First". I have witnessed first-hand her exceeding the expectations of her job in many ways. When Amber sees an issue or a need, she will work on it until patient care occurs or try her best to make it happen.
She saw that bookbags would be helpful for our patients and saw to it that they received them. It helped them with their organizational skills. Amber saw that patients needed new radios, furniture, and clothing and she was instrumental in getting them on the unit for patients. She was key in making the unit nurses part of the educational schedule for the patients on the weekend and developed many different PowerPoint presentations that were both informational and fun for patient learning. This was helpful for patients to have a more balanced treatment stay during the entire week.
She also took on the major task of developing, implementing, and working continuously with the Fountain Centers Unit Council. She is always well-prepared and has a "we can get this done" attitude. There have been many positive changes due to the development and her work with the council. Amber is not afraid to think outside of the box in all situations and will ask hard questions if she thinks it is helpful for patients and staff.
More recently, our unit had an outbreak of Covid, and she was the day nurse for the entire week. She continued to work diligently in a high-stress situation and advocated for the best patient care during that time. Amber deserves recognition for all of the quality patient care she has given and has personally inspired me to be a better patient advocate.
