This system float pool nurse was assigned to the Pediatric ED; the staff responded to a pediatric rapid response of a 16-year-old on the inpatient pediatric unit. The Peds ED staff began the transfer process to the PICU at IFMC. The patient required 1:1 care and the initiation of an insulin drip, which the pediatric unit does not normally have experience with. Anthony came to relieve the dayshift Peds ED staff and remained in the pediatric inpatient unit to begin and monitor the insulin drip while providing 1:1 care for the patient who was critical and unstable. Anthony seamlessly took on the role and was invaluable in continuing to care for this critical patient and see him through until the PICU transfer team was able to take over. He stepped up and gave great care in this patient’s time of need. Thank you, Anthony, for being a team player and making sure this patient was safe and cared for.
