She made me feel like I matter and am no different than her.
Sunni is bright like the sun. She demonstrated compassion every time we crossed paths, whether she was assigned to be my nurse or not, she took time out of her busy schedule to help me through a panic attack while I was experiencing negative self-talk.

Sunni reminded me that my current circumstances do not define me and that we all struggle. She said the only difference between us was that she wears a badge from The University of Kansas Health System, and I don’t. It really touched my heart in a way I’ll never forget. She reminded me that we all have struggles and health issues and that just because mine is different from hers or anyone else’s, doesn’t mean I should be labeled or embarrassed, or humiliated. She made me feel like I matter and am no different than her.

Every time I saw Sunni while here, she had a smile on her face and something encouraging to say. She made me laugh. She made me realize that self-care is not selfish. It is necessary so that I can take care of others.

She gave me tangible ways to calm myself in a panic and recognize triggers and de-escalate a panic attack before it happens.

She has superb clinical skills and always explained my meds, as well. She seemed like a great co-worker and helped when it was needed and maybe wasn’t “her job”.

She’s the best!
