I had been admitted to TMCA for several days before Maeghan was assigned as my nurse. We were already frustrated with the fractured nature of care and lack of clear communication, and oftentimes contradictory information coming from different departments. Maeghan's first interaction with us was when I and my husband were very upset and emotional. Instead of becoming defensive or hostile like some others we had dealt with, she immediately de-escalated and promised to be our advocate with the physicians, which was not something any of my other nurses had done. She did not disappoint! Not only was she cool and collected in the face of extreme pressure and our increasing anxiety in the face of roadblocks to a diagnosis, she showed nothing but compassion, understanding, humanity, and humor to me and my family. She promised to be our advocate, and she followed through at every step of the way. We were, unfortunately, unable to reach a diagnosis and ultimately transferred to a different facility, but our time at TMCA was made all the better for our chance to work with such a wonderful and caring human and nurse. I hope that if I ever find myself in a similar situation again, I want all members of my care team to be as outstanding as Maeghan. She truly deserves to be recognized for her work and spirit.
