I am the primary caretaker for my father. My father is an 84-year-old USMC Veteran and has been in the hospital many times for various health reasons over the years. During the last twenty years, we have encountered countless nurses and healthcare providers during these visits. Unfortunately, my father was admitted recently with various health issues. He was discharged today after a rough week due to health issues. 

Throughout my father's stay, Ashley was his nurse during most of the day shifts. I was also by my father's bedside every day for support. Ashley embodies what it means to be a compassionate caretaker, taking great care of my father during his stay in the hospital. She not only exhibited the utmost professionalism, but she also showed compassion and kindness towards my father - which we firmly believe helped keep his spirits up and assisted with his road to recovery. Additionally, Ashley was informative, attentive and we felt she genuinely exhibited the qualities of nursing excellence to the highest degree. We feel Ashley is the perfect example of what nursing excellence is and should be. 

Lastly, I'd like to mention one final note. After decades of being a full-time caretaker, I fully realize that nursing and taking care of another individual is not an easy job, in particular day in and day out. With that said Ashley showed more compassionate care towards my father over the last few days than I have seen any other healthcare professional show. She is the embodiment of what nurses should aspire to. I hope these candid words reach the right people within the Christiana Care Health System. We are in debt to Ashley and hope she is recognized appropriately.
