I received a phone call from a clinic patient who said his father, also a patient, was possibly having a heart attack. He said he called an ambulance and had given his dad a nitro pill but was not sure if he could give him another. I told the patient I would need to get a nurse on the line with him. Tina sits next to me, so I asked if she could take the call. She did not hesitate. She immediately got on the line and began speaking to the son, calmly asking him specific questions about his father's status and when he last took the nitro. Her calm and positive attitude reduced the son’s fears. She kept time and told the son when it was time for his dad to take another tablet. She said to him that she was going to stay on the line until the ambulance showed up. She was so gentle and extremely helpful to this patient and his father. I was looking at the list of words on this nomination for reasons to select a nurse and she fell under so many during that short call: Communicated positively, Professional, Competent, Kind, Empathetic, Considerate, and supportive. I am privileged to work with her. She truly deserves this DAISY Award!
