She made me feel better about leaving and more confident.
I am a lung cancer survivor all due to my excellent care and doctors at UCI. I had a very rare form of genetic lung cancer and have fought for my life in the last 18 months. Because UCI is a research hospital, I have been in remission and pray to stay that way. I had a very weird emergency of a bladder rupture earlier this year. I had to be treated in an emergency and again was labeled as rare and different as this is not a common thing. I was transferred to the 4th floor and had a three-day stay to stabilize me. The hospital was packed and full. They put me in a very unique hallway room with a Christmas tree in it. I was grateful to have a room and a bathroom and staff to care for me. Nurse Noelle did an exceptional job She went above and beyond her duties to take care of me. All the nurses were so overworked it made me sad- they had 5 patients each my whole stay. Two of the days there was no nurses aid to take care of the smaller tasks. On my day of discharge, Noelle knew I would need supplies at home and home health, and my supplies were delayed by several days. She made sure I knew exactly how to go home with a catheter to keep the infection away, and what to do if I needed to change or had an emergency to hopefully keep me from coming back to the ER. As busy as it was, she was calm, cool, and collected. She made sure to check all the details of my discharge. She made me feel better about leaving and more confident. Each time she came into my room, she made sure I was comfortable and apologized for my room not having walls. I had no nurse call button, so she made an effort to check on me often. She went above and beyond her call of duty. She is an excellent nurse and UCI is lucky to have her. She deserves this award. Nursing is her true calling in life and she is the BEST nurse I have ever had in my 18 months of care.
