She listened to me and was able to start a vein. She was very informative on the procedure and step by step kept me up to speed on what was going on.
In 2001, I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease – good pasture syndrome – my kidneys shut down but luckily, my lungs were not affected. After several months/years of fighting for my life, I was antibody-free and able to go on a list for a transplant. In 2002, I received a phone call from UAB to give me a second chance at life. They had a kidney that matched 5 out of 6. After the transplant, I was told it would last ten years; today, in 2023, I am still here, and it has lasted 21 years. I am beyond blessed. Due to the kidney transplant, I get kidney infections a lot. My prolonged diagnosis required me to get IV infusion therapy. I have had my fair share of hospitals and nurses. I can honestly say that AH is by far the nicest hospital I have encountered. I would like to recognize Heidi in outpatient surgery/ cath lab. She went above and beyond expectations. My doctor and his nurse in Dothan, AL were able to set up my IV infusion treatments with no worries and even expressed to me how easy she was to work with. Upon my arrival at registration, she was expecting me, and everything went smoothly with no worries or anxiety. Heidi walked me to my room, where she already had everything set up and waiting to start. She listened to me and was able to start a vein. She was very informative on the procedure and step by step kept me up to speed on what was going on. I would also like to add that on the days after this when meeting throughout the hospital hallways, she always will speak and greet me with a smile, hello, and how are you. She really stood out to me because when you're sick and not feeling well, it is such a blessing to have nurses and a care team that are nice and have a positive attitude. Heidi went above and beyond expectations.
