She proves to be an understanding clinician and has countless positive ICE comments that refer to her by name, describing her devotion to service and professionalism.
I would like to nominate RN Carly Irvin for the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. She has been working in the APU/PACU for the past two years. The position requires a prudent nurse with the ability to focus on the immediate recovery of fresh post-op patients, competency in intravenous infusions, and prepping patients for surgery. The unit can be a challenging place to work, requiring great time management, and excellent communication with teammates and colleagues. Despite these pressures, she still manages to surpass expectations.
In her tenure with APU/PACU, she has helped to train 10 GS and military nurses, about 20 corpsmen, and over 80 3D MED BN nurses and corpsmen. When new orientees arrive, she spends extra time with employees to ensure they feel comfortable and competent before they practice independently. She actively participates in process improvement by working with the anesthesia department by identifying issues in preop instructions and developing up-to-date information for patients. Additionally, when time allows she contributes to hospital functions by attending Okinawa Nurse Association meetings and acts as our liaison with upcoming news and events.
She proves to be an understanding clinician and has countless positive ICE comments that refer to her by name, describing her devotion to service and professionalism. Some statements include:
“Carly took care of me for both procedures and was so friendly, kind, and professional. You can tell she highly cares about the patients and things running smoothly for everyone in there.”
“…RN Carly, demonstrated heartfelt kindness, a high degree of knowledge, patience, and care during my aftercare and checkout process. Thank you. I love you all, and thank you for your outstanding service and support.”
“…RN Carly spent extra time with me to ensure that I was doing well. She provided my escort with an excellent discharge education. BZ to this unit!”
As one can see, RN Carly Irvin brings her best to the workplace and is truly an asset to this hospital. I and her patients agree that she meets the criteria for empathy, extraordinary clinical skills, a positive attitude, and establishing a special connection with patients. Her contributions at NMRTC Okinawa make her a worthy candidate for the honor of the DAISY Award.
