We had a young lady come through triage for a skin issue. We discovered during triage the person who had accompanied her had abducted, assaulted, and held her hostage prior to coming to the Emergency Room. Pam noted the patient was in distress and pulled her into triage. Pam acted as a patient advocate and tried to distance the patient from the person. She took off her personal safety alarm and gave it to the patient. She placed the patient first.

Pam had a positive impact on the patient and empowered her to realize the situation the patient was in. The patient had a difficult past and she had no one to depend on until Pam. Pam did everything in her power to promote safety and healing. If Pam had not responded as she did the patient may have been back on the streets. When the sexual assault nurse visited her she said to thank Pam for saving her.
