He treated me like a person and not just a number and made me feel welcome, safe and heard.
Mark was friendly and had a great bedside manner from the moment he walked in the room. He listened to me at all times and followed through on everything he said. At one point he came into the room with bags of large tubes. I work in healthcare so I knew these were for blood cultures. I was shocked as the provider didn’t tell me these were being ordered. When I told Mark this, he offered to have the provider come explain to me why she ordered them. I said no that’s ok and brushed it off. Mark looked at me and informed me that it was my right to say I didn’t want these tests done as I’m the patient. I was very impressed with this as I have never had a nurse tell me this. Instead they usually just perform the test or push the test on me. I know what my patient rights are, but to have a nurse tell me I had a right to ask questions and a right to say no was great. I am all about patients being their own advocates and understanding their health care, their rights and whats happening to them. Mark kept me informed every step of the way during my ER visit and even explained things to me better than the provider did. He treated me like a person and not just a number and made me feel welcome, safe and heard. This was the BEST visit I’ve ever had in an ER or urgent care setting. All nurses need to go back to their training on how to treat people and patient’s rights.
