I thank Shakita for making this difficult time seamless.
Shakita has gone over and beyond the call of duty with the tasks placed before her. She not only takes care of her patient but she also updates, informs, and educates the family. There has not been a question I’ve asked or a request I’ve made that hasn’t been answered or performed. Mentally, she’s made it easier for the patient and family to absorb the transition from a vibrant personality to one in need of desperate care. Her contagious laughter, pep talks, and warm conversations are something she did not have to offer. Shakita is healing beyond medication. Specifically, my 78-year-old mother entered with abdominal issues but her personality quickly changed with an obstruction and UTI diagnosis. She was a completely different person. Shakita helped walk us through this and the surgery that lingered with comfort and education that no one else had given. After a successful surgery and mom’s move back to her room, she made pain management the priority. Quickly realizing it needed adjustments, she made the necessary calls and followed through for alternative solutions to ease the tremendous pain and discomfort my mother was experiencing. To say everything she’s done for us in the nearly two weeks and counting would reach far beyond the pages of this booklet and word count. I’ll simply say that we were blessed to have her in our lives for such a time as this. I thank her for making this difficult time seamless. I thank her for taking care of who she now calls “granny”. You are not only St Francis. Because of Shakita, you are now family.
