This nurse recognized that the primary nurse who was caring for a comfort care patient was busy with another critical patient getting them packaged up and sent off to another facility for specialty services. She noticed that the comfort care patient's heart rate started to steadily slow down. There was no family present in the room, and the family was unable to visit until later in the day. She made sure to grab a nursing student, pull up a chair, and had her hold the patient's hand at the bedside so the patient would not have to be alone in her last moments. The act was so genuine and special, and I am sure it meant so much to the patient and the patient's family. Thank you for showing so much care and compassion to all of the patients through the very end!
