Emily was an AOD on for a shift when a very unfortunate situation occurred in the ED. A 3-year-old came into the hospital and very sadly was in cardiac arrest, ultimately passing away. The mother of the 3-year-old was deaf. Emily knew sign language and was a huge support to the family during that very difficult time. Emily stayed with the family and was able to use sign language to help the mom understand the next steps and everything that would be happening. Due to Emily’s kindness and compassion towards the family, the ED staff was also able to maintain the rest of the patients in the unit and also grapple with their own emotions. We are so lucky to have her on our team.
