We couldn't have better things to say about Cat, and are so glad that she is in this field.
After our son was born, he was taken to the annex because he was having trouble regulating his oxygen levels. One day later, after a desaturation event, he was admitted to the NICU, where he spent several days. My husband and I were anxious and stressed, unsure how serious the situation was and trying to learn the basics of parenting (how to hold a bottle, how to burp a baby) amid the beeping machines and frantic pace of the NICU. I'd had a long 36-hour labor, and neither of us slept much for the entire stay in the hospital, trying to make it to almost every feeding every 3 hours, and to be at Emile's side as much as possible. The entire nursing team at NYU was incredible, kind, patient, present, excellent with children and with on-edge parents. But Cat stood out as the person we were most blown away by. Whenever we tell our loved ones about our experience, we spend half the time gushing about the amazing care we received from the NYU team, and from Cat in particular. While doing care rounds on the floor, answering questions from the medical team, and even training multiple new nurses, Cat went out of her way to spend time with my husband, myself and our son. She answered all of our 9 million harried questions; assured us we were doing okay when we'd accidentally get a wire crossed while holding the baby and set off the oxygen machine; set me up for quiet skin to skin time; held and chatted to our son; helped us take a few photos of us with him; shared tips and tricks for feeding and care. She even made a birthday card for my husband ("from" our son, with his footprint) when he turned 33 on our final day in the hospital. She eased our anxieties, took stellar care of our son, and was a warm, empathetic presence who made our stay so much better. It was clear that the other nurses on the floor looked to her for guidance, and she exuded a calm competence and confidence in her work. We couldn't have better things to say about Cat, and are so glad that she is in this field. We're grateful to her and the rest of the NYU nursing team for all that they do.
