She listened to all my concerns and emotions and made it a point to check in on my mom and me to make sure that our goals for her care were met. I cannot thank Nimmy enough for the patience, thoughtfulness, and care that she provided to my mom.
I want to recognize Nimmy for the thoughtfulness and kindness that she showed me, my mom and my family throughout our time on her unit a few months back. As a nurse myself, I am inspired and work to treat my own patients in the manner that Nimmy acted towards us. My mother had ovarian cancer for a few years and had recently started a clinical trial. Soon after, she was admitted to the hospital on Christmas Day 2022 and unfortunately passed on New Year's. Nimmy was her nurse for a few nights before my mom was transferred to the palliative care unit. Nimmy was intentional, an advocate, and so thoughtful towards us. She ensured my mom's pain control was adequate and took time to constantly help me reposition her to ensure that the pain stayed tolerable. She did not hesitate to come sit with my mom one night towards the end of her shift so that I could step away and take some time for myself so that I could shower and get ready for the day (the first time that I stepped away from my mom in days). She had the ability to know not only what my mom needed to keep her comfortable but also what all of my family needed so that we felt supported as well. I know how busy she was but she always made us feel that we were her focus and that we did not need to rush - I think a skill that only the best nurses can master. I was with my mom throughout her fight for years, but Nimmy has been a nurse that I still think about. As a nurse myself, I find it very hard to separate and transition to being a family member for a patient. Things progressed very quickly for my mom, but Nimmy's empathy was unmatched by many. She was great about reminding me to be a daughter and that I was not a nurse who was at work those days. She listened to all my concerns and emotions and made it a point to check in on my mom and me to make sure that our goals for her care were met. I cannot thank Nimmy enough for the patience, thoughtfulness, and care that she provided to my mom. It is evident that she is a nurse who genuinely cares holistically about her patients. I was very touched by Nimmy and still try to model the care to my patients after hers because it was so impactful to me. She embodies what it means to be a DAISY Nurse and deserves recognition for that. Thank you, Nimmy.
