Nan carries a smile that only promotes kindness, resilience, and empathy with the teams. She makes herself available to the Managers and staff when needed to address learning gaps.
Nan truly demonstrates the qualities of a Nurse Educator. She genuinely cares about the staff and their training and knowledge. Nan is very patient, exceedingly kind, personable, and enthusiastic about her job. She carries a smile that only promotes kindness, resilience, and empathy with the teams. She makes herself available to the Managers and staff when needed to address learning gaps.
One thing that I really love about her is her organizational skills demonstrated in everything she does, from communicating the new hires orientation schedule, making sure the new hire has all the required paperwork for the orientation process, scheduling check-ins biweekly to make sure she staff is moving in the right direction in their orientation process.
Nan communicates effectively via email and in person. She looks for ways to promote critical thinking among the nursing staff and shows up whenever she is needed.
Nan is professional and ensures professionalism with the staff. She works well under high pressure and addresses situations in a calm manner. In one of the check-ins with a new Nurse, we noticed that the staff had a lot of blank areas in their competency sign-off sheets, and Nan respectfully and professionally communicated the expectation with the staff while maintaining empathy and understanding that new staff could have a lot of things going on, and sometimes they may not fully understand what is required of them. She took her time to explain it again to make sure the staff understood the process.
I also witnessed how she promotes excellence and promotes positive behaviors. During our check-in with one of our new international nurses, Nan was impressed by the organizational skills of the nurse in her paperwork and how she communicated. She told the Nurse to keep it up and that she was a role model for new staff given she had all the paperwork completed and organized and that she did not have anything missing.
Nan is also a Leader. She leads by example and guides our staff to be excellent in what they do, and she helps them to get there. I really appreciate Nan and I look forward to making greater impact with her collaboration on 2A Nursing Unit. Thank you, Nan!

I am nominating Nan Hess-Eggleston as one of the Nurse Educators who has been very diligent and outstanding with her work for years now as an educator. I consider her an extraordinary person and nurse clinician. She is a highly-skilled, extremely knowledgeable, compassionate team player who is always there and displays and promotes a higher standard. She is very effective and demonstrates the true meaning of being an advocate for the nurses and CNAS. My story is with Nan- as I remember, I had questions, and she would try to find answers for me without hesitation; she would pause and say let me search for it. She motivates staff, follows through on some issues, and makes sure that we do follow our protocols. I really admire Nan for her dedication and commitment to being part of our leadership team as our nurse educator.
