COL Marsh is a visionary and is far beyond our time with his ideas for improvements to the Art of Nursing. His priority focuses on people and helping nurses successfully navigate the complex medical system we are working within.
COL Matthew K. Marsh joined the Brooke Army Medical Center team as the Deputy Commander for Inpatient Services. He brought with him vast leadership experience and a passion for building an environment in which nurses thrive. COL Marsh’s focus on team building, resiliency and training for readiness during his tenure was greatly appreciated by the nursing staff. He was committed to ensuring that nurses were safe, resourced, and resilient during the time significant change. The staff appreciates his presence and engagement.  He reinvigorated the Suits to scrubs to ensure that all voices were heard and at every level. 

COL Marsh always looks for ways to build processes that enhance and advocate for nursing. His leadership has been widely appreciated as he always placed trust in his subordinates, supporting their innovative ideas, challenging them to improve the work culture, and developing process improvements. COL Marsh was an advocate for staff when issues were identified and looked for opportunities to build efficiencies. His famous “cross talks” allowed for collaboration and team building that strengthened the team and allowed for transparency of information.

Some of his most impactful contributions were as follows:
•    Assisted in revamping nursing communication and professional development platform
•    Championed scope of practice policy so that all personnel are practicing to the height of their training/licensure ultimately ensuring operational readiness.
•    Revised BAMC sitter policy to maximize on capability of certified nursing assistance and military medical technicians
•    Steered Barcode Medication Scanning within the facility to > 90% in inpatient areas
•    Mentored > 10 Army Nurse Corps officers via Executive shadow program or Baylor Health Care Administration program 

COL Marsh’s positive attitude is infectious, and his support of the entire nursing team can be felt throughout the facility. He is a visionary and is far beyond our time with his ideas for improvements to the Art of Nursing. As he transitions to his new position, his legacy of caring, team building, and innovation will remain etched in the minds of the staff at Brooke Army Medical Center. His priority focuses on people and helping nurses successfully navigate the complex medical system we are working within.  COL Marsh continues to highlight the essentiality of nursing and how critical it is to ensure nursing is resourced appropriately. All his efforts left Brooke Army Medical Center a better place for nurses and patients alike.
