Hayley is a wonderful nurse educator on our unit. She fosters a compassionate environment by engaging and creating meaningful relationships with the nurses on the floor. Hayley is easy for staff to come talk to and raise questions or concerns, she is a great active listener and makes staff feel heard and valued, which in return engages them in education on the floor. In her role as educator, she has helped create and host multiple escape rooms for staff competencies and education. She advocates making learning fun and engaging and bridging the gap between the requirements for ongoing education and the needs/wants of the staff. In creating ongoing education that is fun and engaging, Hayley has helped to bridge the gap in keeping professional, adult learners engaged, interested, and excited to learn and advance their professional identity. Hayley is an expert resource on our floor as she continues to work in staffing. She is a nurse on the floor who is always willing to go above and beyond to meet her patients' needs and be a team player. She is always at her patients' bedside, willing to advocate for her patients, and is a wonderful support for her patients. In doing so, she is able to confidently demonstrate the important roles of a labor and delivery nurse, as well as create more meaningful relationships with staff outside of working in the office by being on the floor, doing the job, and making herself available to her peers. Hayley is always willing to take the time to make small talk with nursing students and new hires alike, engaging them in continuous learning, promoting critical thinking through open-ended questions, and creating confident learners. When Hayley is on the floor with nursing students, she is willing to go above and beyond to engage them in education. I have personally heard her communicate with them like they are another member of our team, emphasizing their value on our floor and her appreciation for their help. She actively engages them with her patients and encourages their confidence in the care and conversations they have. In doing so, she promotes learner development, socialization, and interpersonal relationships. Hayley has been in the education role formally for two years now, but her commitment to education and learning has always been evident even informally as a staff nurse. She is an excellent clinical nurse who is respected, appreciated, and valued, and her promotion to an educator on our floor is such a valuable asset.
