I have been working with Amy Jones from 6A the NM for a month, and I believe she is an exemplary nurse manager. She treats all the staff with kindness and tries to go above and beyond to accommodate their schedule and offer help and resources where and when it is needed. She always volunteers to stay and work in direct patient care when she is called upon, no matter what the shift is. She always strives to ensure that all the staff get everything they need to perform their duties, creating a sense of family with the staff and ensuring the veterans receive the best care on 6A. She actively makes sure that 6A gets new staff as soon as the possibility presents itself. She also encourages them to bring ideas to make the unit better and also makes sure that nurses or NAs are recognized for their efforts by sending them “Kudos” and offering them educational opportunities such as preceptor and charge nurse classes. I believe a nurse manager who goes above and beyond should be recognized for their effort. Amy is working toward making 6A the best acute care unit in Charlie Norwood VA DD. Working toward preventing or reducing patient falls on her unit and goes above and beyond for staff and patients. That is the reason why I am nominating Amy Jones 6A, NM.
