Alex was able to make a real connection with my uncle who was on a ventilator and could not speak. She spent time with him, kept him calm and talked to him telling him all about why he was in there, what the plan was to get him better and how he was progressing. She was able to understand his facial expressions and limited movements to tell what he needed to be made comfortable. When I came to visit, she was so sweet and friendly, and she made me feel not only welcome, but a necessary part of my uncle’s wellness plan.

My daughter, also a CCU nurse but at a different hospital, spoke with Alex several times for updates on his progress before meeting face to face. When they did, it was like seeing two old friends reunite. They seemed to “click” right away. I think it is just Alex’s demeanor and personality. Super open and positive. Definitely compassionate and empathetic, backed by a brilliant mind. All the makings of a wonderful nurse! Alex is very deserving of the DAISY Award because of these strong traits. I often saw other nurses coming to her for an opinion and/or direction. She is definitely a leader in her field and well respected.
