She delicately balanced compassion, patience, and gentleness with pushing/encouraging tasks he did not want to do.
Our father had the privilege of being cared for by Kelsey during two of six days inpatient at Good Sam. This admission was unexpected and full of stress, anxiety, unknowns, difficult conversations, and setbacks. However, all this was eased a bit with Kelsey as his nurse. We saw him immediately connect with her, and despite his glum attitude, with Kelsey, we saw our dad's personality seem to shine through more and more. He smiled, he laughed, and he joked (even though being in the hospital was the last place he wanted to be). She delicately balanced compassion, patience, and gentleness with pushing/encouraging tasks he did not want to do. Kelsey was genuine and sincere in her care, in not only her interactions with the patient but also with us, his daughters. We (including my dad) felt safe and well cared for with Kelsey. She not only is intelligent but also a wonderful critical thinker, thinking far beyond doctors' orders and numbers. She was an amazing advocate for our family, and for that, we will be forever grateful.

When my sister and I saw an unfavorable result from one of his tests in 'my chart' late one afternoon, she knew how unsettled we all were, knowing it would not be discussed until rounds the next morning. Kelsey took it upon herself to reach out to the covering doctor, requesting he speak with us before he left. She could tell how anxious and frightened my sister and I were and wanted us to have some clarification that evening. The discussion with the doctor brought an immense amount of ease that we unknowingly didn't know we needed, but Kelsey recognized that. Thankful, grateful, and appreciative seem so inadequate, but thank you to Kelsey for caring for our dad.
