From every nurse who spoke to me about getting a midline and then eventually a PICC for almost 2 weeks, everyone spoke of her and so highly of her. I had a roommate who was suffering from the same thing as me, and she had already gotten her PICC, and she even told me how wonderful she was. Another nurse came to do my midline but stated she learned from Shawna, and as scared as I was, she really did great, too! Shawna came to me and gave me options on when I felt best for her to do my PICC and allowed me to wait a day because of how scared I was. She kindly rechecked in the morning, and I was ready. She asked if a student could watch and explained to her certain things she wouldn't say out loud because of how nervous I was. That meant a lot. She answered all my questions, and she talked me through them all the way. She took her time and made sure it was done 100% correctly. She allowed me to play music and talked to me, which helped. She went above and beyond to make it end up feeling so simple. She provided me with the paperwork to read on the PICC she had inserted and took the time to show and explain the care and maintenance I needed to know.
