Sheila has been known in a nursing capacity for nearly 20 years, where she has been observed both at the bedside and as a nursing leader. Sheila exemplifies what it means to be a caring, supportive, and knowledgeable nurse. A notable instance that highlights her character occurred in 2023 when the AMAT President developed a systemic infection and tore an Achilles tendon, nearly preventing attendance at the annual meeting. Sheila ensured that attendance was possible by administering necessary medications, completing dressing changes twice daily, and even securing a knee scooter to assist with mobility. Moreover, she maintained daily communication with the AMAT President’s spouse to provide updates on overall wellness and prevent overexertion.
