I wanted to send a huge thank you to your RN Ellen from Dialysis. We had a 40-year-old code this morning at 7 am, and the wife, unfortunately, only spoke Korean. We searched the hospital for us to find a Korean-speaking staff member who could come down and be of support to the very emotional and grieving wife. While the iPad interpreter was initially helpful (after taking over 20 minutes to get someone on) for the physician to explain that the pt had passed, having Ellen be an emotional support who was able to speak with the wife here was incredible. She was so compassionate and helped explain to us some Korean traditions to follow after death that were very beneficial to respect this patient’s culture. Again, I would like to send my sincerest thank you to Ellen for her support and help this morning in the ER. She was truly the definition of Humankindness.
