We went out and bought the patient his favorite dessert and a bell for him to ring at bedside. She made sure we asked for his family to be present at bedside that evening.
Although Oneesha has only been a manager for a few years, Oneesha utilizes her 18 years of experience working at Hillcrest to guide her approach when leading her team.  This knowledge is projected in a positive and impactful way, which builds trust with her team. Subsequently, she can rally the troops to gain buy-in for new changes or achieving metrics. It is evident in her daily activities that her team admires her, and likewise, the team feels appreciated. Like the Coast Guard motto "always ready" Oneesha is committed to her team. She modifies her schedule to support both day and night shifts, and she is responsive to calls after hours. Oneesha uses technology to enhance operations, communicate with her team, and alert safety concerns. For example, she created a Charge Nurse Update in Teams to boost communication with her team and alert safety concerns. She also developed standard work tools for various roles. Oneesha is the type of Manager that every nurse needs and deserves.

Oneesha is an outstanding nurse and leader for this unit. She has helped to create a unit that trusts one another and works well together. She is patient and motivating and always has a good attitude regardless of the circumstances. She does an amazing job addressing any concerns that patients and families have during their stay here. I am blessed to work on Oneesha’s unit.

Oneesha is the prime example of what you would want in a leader. One particular example of her wonderful leadership and compassion comes from her willingness to go above and beyond to make her patients feel special. We deal with cancer patients on a regular basis and do not always get to see them progress with their treatment or follow up with them after discharge. We had the opportunity to care for one particularly young man from the beginning to the end of his treatment. We were able to be there from the time he was diagnosed and administer all of chemo treatments inpatient. By the end of cycle 5 we were all very familiar with him and he had developed nicknames for many of the staff members. When Oneesha was completing leader rounds he asked her if we ever got to see the patients ring the bell whenever treatment was completed. She explained to him that we do not usually get to participate in that ceremony because the Cancer Center handles everything after they are discharged from the hospital. Oneesha then decided that once the patient completed his last chemo treatment on the unit, we would hold our own ringing of the bell ceremony before he discharged. She called over to the Cancer Center and asked them to email over the scripture that is read as well as the certificate of treatment completion. We went out and bought the patient his favorite dessert and a bell for him to ring at bedside. She made sure we asked for his family to be present at bedside that evening. The patient and his family were grateful for the thoughtfulness behind the gesture as he felt he was able to celebrate with the staff that had taken such good care of him. Oneesha made sure we were all able to participate in this patient’s special moment. She is a beautiful person inside and out, and I am grateful to work with such a wonderful leader.
