I went into labor with my 3rd baby after two other birth experiences that had resulted in C-sections. After arriving at the hospital, the labor process was going so well that I opted to attempt a TOLAC for the second time (my first birth was a planned C-section, and my second resulted in a C-section after my son’s heart rate dropped). Helena played a critical role in my success in delivering my daughter by VBAC. She was extremely supportive throughout the entire process and communicated appropriately, so I felt comfortable and safe. I felt like she wanted it to be successful just as badly as I did.

She was very efficient in how she moved me to support the labor process, always heard my voice, and supported what I felt was best. She made my husband feel like an active player and an essential member of the team. When my daughter was born, a surprise gender reveal, she celebrated as much as we did, knowing that we already had two sons at home. She also worked extremely well with all the staff and, in partnership with the midwife, made such a positive experience for my husband, daughter, and me. Having such an incredible birth experience is something that will always be a part of our story. We will tell it for years to come, and Helena will always be a part of it. We are so grateful for her and wan to recognize her for being not only an amazing nurse but an incredible human being as well. We will never forget her!
