Brigette always looks out for the best interest of her patients. During two recent instances, Brigette cared for patients with challenging social situations. The first patient had a urology surgery and was being discharged with a catheter. Brigette identified a knowledge deficit. Not only did Brigette spend additional time with his education, but she also involved Case Management who assured that the patient would have Home Nursing to evaluate him and assist him with his catheter care, as well as our Surgical Safety Net Team, who monitored the patient by telephone assessments for a period of time post-discharge.

The second patient had some cognitive and comprehension difficulties. This patient was having difficulty managing his company's FMLA and short-term disability forms. Brigette took action to assist the patient, including contacting his community case managers, our VAPHS social service department, and our transportation.

Brigette's commitment to assuring safe discharges and preparing her patients for an ideal set-up to ease patient concerns, improve patient outcomes, and increase overall satisfaction is admirable.
