One of life's most difficult experiences was filled with compassion. From a stranger at the beginning of the day, to someone I will forever hold close to my heart.
Megan Kane was my postpartum nurse. I had never met her before and she will forever be part of my son's story. My son lived for 18 minutes after his birth. Megan spent 9 hours caring for me and gazing at my adorable baby. She treated me in a way that didn't say, "I'm sorry your baby died, " but in celebration of who he was and how he is forever my 4th child. The way she wheeled him out for "Arts and Crafts" to make our family keepsakes and bathed him in a soap that now my children use so they can smell like their baby brother too. She sat on my bed with me and cried with me. She answered my questions about breastmilk donation, and as I watched my son drive away in the funeral car, she stood beside me with her arms wrapped around me. One of life's most difficult experiences was filled with compassion. From a stranger at the beginning of the day, to someone I will forever hold close to my heart. A nurse that I will forever remember as the one who celebrated my son when I was hurting and broken. She helped me look at my son's birthday as beautiful in the midst of hardship.
