She had a special rapport with my son and could coax him into putting on a brace when no one else could!
My twenty-five-year-old son came to Craig with a traumatic brain injury. He also had two infections, one at the wound site and one in his bloodstream. The injury left his right side immobile and impacted his speech. He was very weak and slept a lot at the beginning stages of recovery. Being nonverbal was a challenge, but Harriet was so patient with him. She used yes/no charts or thumbs up or down until he regained some speech. Harriet explained the medical conditions to us in ways we could understand. She had a special rapport with my son and could coax him into putting on a brace when no one else could! If he got frustrated, she would get down to the level of his wheelchair and talk quietly and calmly to him. She reminds me of Mary Poppins—firm, but fair and loving. She would get him to do what he needed in her calm but persistent manner. We were at Craig for months, and Harriet became my favorite nurse. She was always professional, kind, knowledgeable, and helpful. We truly appreciate her and feel she deserves this award!

Day nurses Jaquelyn, Harriet and night nurses Meg and Megan profoundly impacted our daughter through the care they administered to her. Our daughter was involved in a car accident and had been at another hospital for several weeks. When she arrived at Craig Hospital, she was tired and still in a lot of pain. From day one, these four ladies made a point to get to know her, not because they had to, but because they were genuinely interested in who she was. Their exceptional care and genuine interest in her well-being made her feel at ease and helped her heal faster.

Our daughter started at Craig, unsure of what to expect, not wanting to do be there, and discouraged by her injuries. When she left Craig, she went with tears in her eyes because she was sad to leave the nurses who had significantly impacted her and helped her heal.

From a father’s perspective, I knew I could go during the day or night because my daughter was constantly cared for. The ladies kept me informed of her status, made me feel at ease, and always presented themselves professionally and with a smile.
